For people looking to step up to full 1080p resolution in a 46-inch flat-panel LCD, Samsung’s 2007 model LNT4661FF is a good choice. Besides offering full 1080p resolution the LNT4661F also features a 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio for rich blacks and subltle texture display, an 8ms response time panel for smooth motion, hidden side speakers, an NTSC tuner, and 3 HDMI ports.

Compared to other Samsung Models
The primary differences between Samsung’s LNT4661F and the step-up LNT4665F LCD HDTV is in the contrast ratio and video processing power. The pricier LNT4665F offers a 15,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio compared to this model’s 10,000:1 ratio, and also offers full 10bit video processing over this model’s 8 bit system. The more expensive model should display finer gradients of shading making for more detail in darker scenes. The video processing difference should ensure smoother motion in fast moving scenes for the LNT4065F.

Video Processing
The Samsung Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe) Video Enhancer refines all analog NTSC and wideband video inputs for an overall improvement in picture quality. DNIe improves contrast, white level, picture detail and incorporates digital noise reduction to improve lower quality video inputs. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter constantly analyzes the three dimensions of picture height, picture width, and picture changes-over-time to dramatically reduce edge image artifacts while improving transition detail.

Connections

  • HDMI (version 1.3): 3 (1 CEC cabaple)
  • Component video: 2 (Y, Pb, Pr)
  • S-Video input: 1 side/1 rear
  • A/V inputs: 1 side/1 rear
  • PC inout: 1
  • Headphone Jack: 1
  • USB 2.0: 1

Audio Features
High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the speakers built into the TV. SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass through hidden side speakers. TruSurround XT audio adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience.

  • Dialog Clarity brings movie dialog into Focus during the playback of any surround-encoded material to make speech much clearer and crisper.
  • TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself.
  • The SRS WOW feature widens the soundstage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system.

“Lasted 2 years and 10 months…” 2010-10-19
By John Evenhouse
Great TV (for 2 years and 10 months…). I purchased this TV from Amazon in December of 2007. I now see a black rectangle that appears on my screen and distorts the image. After following the repair process via Samsung’s website I learned that it would cost me $1350 (to repair a TV that I paid $1500 for). Very frustrating!

“THIS TV WILL NOT LAST YOU 18 MONTHS!” 2010-10-14
By C. Lieu (Burbank, CA United States)
OMG I didn’t realize everybody else was having such a problem with this samsung, thought I was the only one with a lemon. About a year and a half after ownership the tv started cycling/clicking and turning on slowly with static/snow all over the picture and things have gotten progressively worse, I’m expecting it to crap out any day now. I thought Samsung was a great co. but they really cheaped out on their products, these things won’t last 2 yrs! Is there a class action lawsuit on this???

“2009, thats when it change. Don’t buy.” 2010-10-14
By eric2959
2009 is when the reviews for this tv changed, (seriously, the last review here of 08 is 5*, the first of 09 1*)it is when the people who bought it earlier have had their warranties expire and the problems begin which sammy does not care about. This tv will work great for 15 months too 31 months(mine), please read only recent reviews of this 1800$ bic lighter.
Instead of trying to explain what my tv does here is a video I found on youtube that shows it, a video is worth a thousand words.
[…]
again, DO NOT BUY!!!

Just saw I can’t link youtube here(sorry about that amazon)so go to youtube and paste this in the search box-> Samsung LNT4661f problem brown screen <- the video that comes up shows what mine and many others are talking about with the picture.
No clicking or going on and off on its own yet, but there is a video on youtube for that also.

so please, from the bottom of my heart, don’t buy this.

“Samsung ignoring major problems with their LCD TV’s” 2010-10-09
By S. Humberger
I purchased this TV in April of 2008 and was initially pleased with it. About a month after the warranty ran out (1 year) it started displaying multiple horizontal bars of programing, sometimes a dozen or more at a time. It was unwatchable. Being out of warranty it was on my dime to get it fixed. I had a conversation with the repair tech and was told that the internal connections had corrosion on them. Then about a month after getting it repaired it started doing it again. This time I repaired it myself by coating the connections with a dielectric gel. After two and a half years of operation it now displays thin horizontal lines with ghosting of programing smeared down the screen. After it warms up the display problem goes away.
I did a search on the internet about this problem and was astonished at the shear number of different complaints there were concerning Samsung TV’s, and not just one model. There is talk of bringing a Class Action Lawsuit against Samsung because these problems are so widespread and Samsung is hiding behind its so called warranty. When you pay a grand or more for a TV you expect it to last a lot longer than a year or two. I bought this TV because of a good review from Consumer Reports. I don’t fault CR because their testing cannot look for this kind of long term problem. I fault Samsung for using substandard parts and then blowing off their customers. Until Samsung takes care of this problem with their TV’s I can’t recommend that anyone buy any of their products. They need to address their quality problems and fix the TV’s in the field. I would highly recommend that anyone considering buying a Samsung TV first do a search on the internet to see for themselves how bad this problem has gotten. A local TV station ran a story about the problems associated with Samsung TV’s.
I used to think that Samsung had a good product line but I will not buy anything from them now. I don’t know if they have corrected the quality issues with their newer models but I’m not willing to give them another chance to take my money and run. Until Samsung really takes care of their quality problems beware of lip service PR campaigns to get you to buy their products.

“Panel failure – blocking of images” 2010-10-03
By Nola (Bay Area, CA USA)
Like the rest on this review section, what was a good deal ($1600) turned sour when earlier this year our set started having a dark cast (blocking) over the left-side, and then some, of the tv. It would block sections of the screen in various locations – top 1/4, left half of screen, then back and forth. At first, it would take about 15 minutes, I am guessing, to warm up for it to go away. It wouldn’t always have this problem til several weeks later, when it would occur at every start-up. Then it would take longer for this cast of dark to go away. Of course, very annoying. I called Samsung, they had a repair guy come over who claimed the panel was failing. Estimate cost of repair – $1400. Are you kidding!! No way.

The tv is just sitting in our dining room on the floor, since there’s no place/room we can put it away. I said no more Samsung tvs after reading many other problems with these 2007 models. Like the rest, I figured 5 years for these digital monitors, a little over 2years just doesn’t cut-the-cake. We have a Panasonic plasma for 3years and no problems, so decided with the 3d version model. So far so good.

It’s time for a class action suit on this one. This is definitely a lemon. 😦
